Flying over the bay, and lost an engine. Actually it's even worse than that, because the engine came loose and was dangling, as well as damaged the wing, and took out the flap linkage, so the flap was stuck in an abnormally UP position on the same side as the dead engine. Landed in one piece. Mostly.....

    Wanna make a large platform rover. Gonna use alot of 12v batteries thats for sure. A battery for the servos A battery for the pixhawk A battery for the FPV camera but might use pixhawk battery as pichawk does use alot of juice. And maybe 2 batteries for the large high torque moter

      Sure, there is a small inexpensive servo, I think a 9 gram which pulls a pin through holes drilled in 3 pieces of wood. two on one side of the release point, and the other on the other side. the two on one side is to keep the pin aligned with the 3rd when the servo goes back the other way so it can reset without jamming. the pin is horizontal. that is on the space plane, built into the upper fuselage at the CG. there are two holes drilled in the mother ship bottom fuselage. a zip tie is placed around the pin in the space plane and cinched up through the holes in the mother ship to tighten slightly and hold securely. then the servo is actuated to release. The design for the release is in the plans for the Future Star space plane.

      Not using one. I'm using Mavlink telemetry, which gives me full HUD, Customizable instrumentation, screen and audio alerts, and lets me give Mavlink commands. Just need a telemetry radio such as the holybro 433mhz 500mw SIK style radio V2, combined with a VAS diamond directional antenna on a pole. gives about 12-20km of telemetry and about 5-10km of commands in my RF environment, which is neither great nor poor.

      for that, you would need a much larger airplane. The total gross weight of the Gemini V-2 is about that 10 Kilos. Payload depends on battery, but would be less than half that. I'm not sure what the requirements are, but would it be possible to drop a smaller life raft? or make a lighter one from more sophisticated materials? Also the mission profile.. for instance, does the plane need to search for the target, then drop, or is it responding to a call with position information. If the latter, then it would be need to be distance optimized, with a bias towards speed. assuming that it is for life saving, time would be a priority. Was talking to a major university lately regarding a (perhaps) similar mission profile, using radar to measure glacial ice in Greenland. We were discussing the possibility of scaling up the Gemini V-2 to 150% for their use. @@robertgoldbornatyout

      thanks for your kind reply sir about the university sounds good maybe a wise person could kill two birds with one stone , how about could you give me some idea of size of wing area that I would need according to wait of plane make the plane work on 1 battery pack or 2 packs or 4 packs what size motors I would need plus all other electronics and I will make the air frame according to you best guess? other wise its my best guess and I haven't got a clue, thanks for you help, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'm not sure what the requirements are, but would it be possible to drop a smaller life raft? or make a lighter one from more sophisticated materials? yes it would be, the specs sound simple but I know their not, so the specs are this plane has to take off and land on a boat it has to be as small and light as possible it has to have a search range of 100km carrying a 10kilo pay load that sometimes maybe a life raft. I know you could just work it out on a pice of paper in 30 minutes , so far its taken me 6 weeks and I still can't , the only one helping me at the moment is bing, but I'm not sure if I can trust bing, but I can trust you.@@FPVREVIEWS

    Hi, my name is William Walker and I am developing a Blade Runner style flying car. It is a very unusual vehicle and thought your group might be interested in it. I call the vehicle "Sky Chaser" and an artistic picture of it can be seen in the icon at the top left hand side of this post. Clicking on the icon will enable you to see a project presentation and flight videos. Sky Chaser looks and drives like a car, flies both vertically and horizontally, and is amphibian. It has no exposed rotors, and uses the body as a wing. It also has no unfolding wings, and flies the way it looks, just like the Blade Runner vehicle in the movies. Sky Chaser is basically a flying wing design with twin electric motors in front and has double rudders and double elevons in back for control. It also has VTOL capability and is a Tricopter configuration, with 2 tilting front electric motors in front mounted on nacels, and another electric stationary motor in back blowing thrust though a hole in the wing behind the cockpit. The tilting motors enable vehicle to transition from VTOL to plane mode. The aircraft is also car with 4 large wheels powered by small electric motors. In addition, the vehicle is amphibian, and can navigate and takeoff and land on water, both in VTOL and in plane mode. Sky Chaser has a very short wing, but its effectiveness is increased by blowing high speed thrust over the wing and by using oversized side body panels, housing the wheels, to block airflow around the wingtips and help channel the airflow over the wing. The front props are counter rotating and from the pilots perspective, the right prop rotates clockwise and the left prop rotates counterclockwise. This configuration seems to yield the most lift. I started the project in 2016 in San Diego, Calif, USA where I built and tested a 1/6 scale model. Then I made a CAD model and got it to fly in a flight simulator. 3 years ago I moved to Sweden and work with business partner and we have now built a full scale unmanned working prototype which flies.     Well done! Lots of good thinking went into this airplane. Love the mostly balsa construction and clear covering- gives it something of an "Old School" look and is very practical as well. Yes, those wings help this plane achieve a higher than normal lift to drag ratio. It will not take much power to keep this flying level.

      L/D is one aspect of how much power is required to stay airborne. Sink rate is a more valuable metric. L/D is pretty much directly applicable to distance achievable, excluding other factors such as headwinds, etc.

This was very useful because I'm building a full scale wing in ground effect pusher aircraft. You helped me understand the pros and cons to the configuration.       @@FPVREVIEWS Thanks very much for the comment, yes there will definitely be more videos. Progress on the machine is coming along and I'm hoping testing this summer will be possible. I completely agree that wig aircraft have potential and are not being utilised. The Main purpose of building is to have fun with and to learn about fixed wing ground effect aircraft. The experience could lead to a more serious ground effect design. I chat a lot with James Greenberger and his mudskipper on RUclips who has made a great machine. What is your background? You have a huge amount of knowledge.

      read lots of books on aerodynamics, also flew full scale and been designing models for most of my life. Internet helps a lot for self education, but have to be selective because most people don;t actually know what they are talking about. I spend lots of time thinking about problems, configurations and optimization. no formal education. I didn't do well in school because I was too busy studying NACA data. :). I just find aircraft fascinating and see huge potential. @@Ben-Dixey

    I just purchased this kit version for $104 and for that price it’s hard to beat. I’ve gotten a few flights in and even stretched it out a bit in FPV. Comparing it to the plane I took the internals from the Zohd Nano Talon Evo. So far I’m liking this one better but it’s not as efficient with it being a twin lol . I’m using 2x 2306.5 1900kv motors running Gemfan 6042 props. Can’t wait to get more flights in 🎉

      drastically lower parts count. also use of 3d printing, and lighter materials. Especially the plywood, which is about 40% lighter than the previous wood that was used for the kit. we are using more of it, so the aircraft is actually more robust as well. not changing anything about the aerodynamics, as the original design works so well. Also now recommending a higher voltage 6S propulsion system.

      @@FPVREVIEWS Being lighter & flying 6S packs would make the Gemini V2 the Ultimate Observer UAV! Your previous records of +4h endurance & +4km altitude are about to be surpassed! Any idea's to break your personal records? And I'm curious in what configuration the 6S packs will be - Assuming the lighter & more robust fuselage would allow a heavier battery (which would match the previous V2's AUW)

      There are many battery configurations possible. most users also carry a payload, so really, once the payload is defined, the rest of the weight can be allocated in battery. But yes, It could carry a much larger battery. Standard 60 cell configuration is NCR18650GA in 6S 10P configuration. Should be able to climb way beyond 4km alt. Limitations last time for Alt. were that I did not push the power system at all, relatively low percentage of amp draw, and control system range. I have Crossfire now, better video system, autonomy, and better antennas. have since flown a smaller plane to flight level 21 in more recent video. my main concern is freezing the battery, so may go in stages next time. @@AeroStuffFPV

      Thankfully I'm not in the US at this time. Remote ID is la poorly conceived idea by people who do not understand the technology, or care about the unintended consequences of their rules. Almost all of the regulation for model aircraft is not about safety at all. IMO it should be ignored when it does not have to do with safety. Study local airspace and make a common sense plan. @@AeroStuffFPV
